Jack Davies | ‘Half Frozen Beer’ Single Launch

Jack Davies and The Bush Chooks are an esteemed Folk Rock group from Fremantle, Western Australia. Formed just over two years ago, the group have quickly evolved into one of WA’s most promising young acts. The group emerged as an electrified take on Jack’s storytelling busker act, weaving suburban Australiana and intimate stories, into thundering folk-rock ballads. Currently, they’re gearing up to release their first single “Half Frozen Beer” off their highly anticipated new EP. The launch will be on the 7th of March at Mojo’s Bar, Fremantle.

Since releasing their first single just over a year ago, The Bush Chooks’ have gained over 750,000 streams online, as well as Triple J, Double J and community radio play across the country. In 2019, they won a WAM award for “Best Folk Act”, and a National Live Music Award (NLMA) for “Best Live Act in WA”. They also completed their first national tour through Townsville, Brisbane, and Melbourne, before going on to play two packed out Bigsound showcases in Brisbane. Jack also toured solo and as a violin duo, through Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide.

In WA, The Bush Chooks have played a string of sold out shows. Most recently supporting big names such as The Waifs, Tash Sultana, San Cisco, Netwon Faulkner, Weyes Blood and played a lauded set at the Fremantle Falls Festival. They have played relentlessly around WA, playing prime spots at Fairbridge Festival, Perth Festival and too many more to list, as well playing multiple years at absolute favourites Wave Rock Festival and Nannup Music Festival. They also released their debut EP “Cleaning The Dishes” in 2019, an eclectic mix of gentle storytelling, buttery harmonies and hard hitting folk rock. The launch was a major success, pulling a crowd of nearly 500 to the modest Clancy’s Fish Pub in Fremantle. Their “Sunday Music Sessions” show at the Fremantle Arts Centre also pulled an unprecedented crowd, of over 2,000.

In 2018, in the early days of the band, The Bush Chooks won the Nannup Music Festival “Rising Artist Award”, which granted them free studio time which was used to record their first single “Vegemite Sandwich”. It was released a few months later to a sold out crowd at Mojo’s Bar in Fremantle, accelerating them into what was a very successful 2019. Now, in 2020, with their highly anticipated new EP at the ready, the year ahead is looking very bright for the Chooks.
